Types of Hauntings
Below are the three main type of hauntings which i have encountered on
my investigations
Intelligent or Traditional Haunting ?
From my experience this is probably one of the most exciting and pleasant of hauntings to investigate, you never really know what you are going to find until you arrive on location. The spirit in this kind of haunting know exactly where they are and who you are, they are just as intelligent in spirit as they were in the physical. They will attempt to communicate with you in a manner of different ways, sometimes their tactics may scare you , which they are not trying to do, they just want you to notice them. So if they do give you a fright you may find they withdraw for a while to let you calm down. Also they may withdraw and not come forward for another reason, in my opinion someone like myself who has sat in circle and trained to communicate with spirit over the years , may have an effect upon spirit and the way they see me, they may see me as a warning of bright light , like a beacon , some may be hesitant to approach this light at first and that's why communication could be slow until they gain trust. On the other hand they can be mischievous, if they have been trying to get your attention for a while and you have been oblivious to their attempts, they may opt for more drama. They are limited to what they can do, usually they can only move light objects, it really depends on how much energy they manage to use, very occasionally they use this energy to manifest themselves (make themselves visible), other times they may only show themselves as a mist or cloud or even a ball of light which is more commomnly known these days as a light anomaly. They could be with you for a variety of reasons, the first and the saddest (I think) is that they don't realise they are dead, they know you are there and can't understand why you are ignoring them, i have mentioned this type of spirit before, they are a grounded spirit and havn't moved on. They could also hang around if there is a child in the house that has seen or heard them, as I said before, they want to be noticed and children are especially receptive to the supernatural. They could be searching for something or someone, or they are there drawn there purely for emotional reasons, it could be they have returned on a visit to be close to be loved one.
Residual Haunting ?
In my opinion, this type of haunting would be the most common that you would come across as an investigator, there is no spirit involved in a residual haunting, i could explain it as a playback in time, like a cine film recording that plays the same event over and over again. This could be a traumatic event that may have occured and has been imprinted in the residual energy of a buliding . Or maybe it would be a playback of a person that lived or worked in a location and is constanly re enacting its past and happy memories, This is what i would call a ghost apparition and it is totally oblivious to your being there, even if you try to wave at it or speak to it, it will continue regardless, until its loop is played out. There are numerous theories on how these residual haunting's come to be, one of which is that certain building materials, such as slate used in older castles and stone structures and iron nails used in many older buildings, have properties similar to that of video and audio tapes. The materials store the energy created by these events and plays them back at a later time. It is believed by some that these residual playbacks are triggered by some sort of energy or sensitivity release.
Poltergeist Haunting ?
A poltergeist haunting can be the most terrifying of all hauntings although normally it is the most rare that you will come across . The word poltergeist is a german word meaning POLTER = noisy , GEIST = Spirit. It is believed that the haunting usually circles around a female in her teen years but this can also happen with teenage boys . Some of these cases seem to be caused by the female unknowingly controlling the energy around herself. Most of the time you will find that one person in the household seems to be more affected by the haunting than anyone else. It may seem that most of the activity doesn't happen unless that certain person is present. Usually, the activity appears to stop when that person leaves the home. This person may be highly stressed as of late or maybe this person has gone through some type of extreme emotional situation. When it is not the teenager that is manifesting activity there are usually several spirits in the area. The spirits appear to pool their energy together in order to become strong enough to move larger objects and make more noises. In order to remedy the situation, you need to find the root of their anger so that they can pass over and leave you in peace. By understanding why it was there in the first place helps you to understand how to keep it from ever coming back again.
